I am a complete jeans and t-shirt girl at heart. I mean it. Don’t get me wrong, I like to get dressed up from time to time, but I much prefer living in comfortable, soft clothing that is enjoyable and easy to wear. That doesn’t mean I haven’t learned how to make my simple look somewhat stylish; cozy and comfortable doesn’t have to mean XXL joggers, after all. In this blog, I’m going to share with you my 6 favourite pieces of clothing that are absolute staples in my closet.
My Favourite Pieces of Clothing
1. Mid-Wash Jeans:
A lived-in, uber comfy pair of mid-wash denim jeans that fit oh-so-perfectly. I’m done with skinnies … my calves and ankles need a bit of breathing room, so I am incorporating more ‘straight legs’ into the wardrobe. (Two of my faves: Real Straight from Gap and Kimmie Straights from Seven for Mankind.
2. Slippers:
I always have slippers on – winter, summer, spring, or fall. They help me feel cozy and comfy when working from home, and I just love them. I have a few favourite pairs by Glerups, LLBean, and Moccasins from the French River Trading Post. Love all of them! Do you wear slippers? Let me know in the comments.
3. White Shirts:
I love white shirts in every shape and size. I think I love this style because it’s crisp and clean, goes with anything, and can be dressed up or down with a funky necklace. Also, I am a huge v-neck fan (I don’t like anything up tight to my neck), classic button-up, soft long-sleeve, scoop-neck tank top, and of course, the multi-button henley ❤️. Super soft and worn with my favourite silver medallion necklace.
4. Shoes:
I love a brown boot. Not dressed up and overly heeled, and not grubby, but just a nice neutral, easy-to-wear saddle-coloured brown boot that goes with everything. I have a pair I bought from Timberland a few years ago, and I can slip them on with anything. One of my closet staples. And in the summertime, you can find me wearing my boat shoes by Sperry. The reason is – you can slip them on, no socks needed, they are more protective than flip flops or sandals, and way more breathable and fun than running shoes. A classic that I have had for more than 2 decades and will not be getting rid of any time soon.
5. Pyjamas:
If you can’t tell by now, I am all about cozy and soft, so it will come as no surprise that I am a lover of flannel jammies. This past Christmas, I got a super awesome two-piece flannel set by PJ salvage that came in a red bandana pattern (love!), and it even came with a matching headband. My choice for warmer temps or for lounging around the house is bamboo harem pants by This is J. Super soft. Wash nicely and uber comfy.
6. Jewellery:
My favourite long necklace with three medallions that I wear almost every day. On it, I have the dates of my son’s birthdays and my anniversary on each. I love the length of it and how personal it is – a staple I wear close to my heart. As far as earrings, either some neutral stud or hoop that I can sleep in or a clean, classic larger dangling hoop or coloured something to add a bit of fun to my jeans and to my wardrobe. Nothing too fancy, flashy or heavy.
So there you have it. That’s me and my 6 favourite pieces of clothing in a nutshell: jeans, t-shirts, brown leather footwear, and comfy jammies…
Bonus #7 Sweater:
oh, and a long cozy knit sweater. Nobody was asking, but I thought I would share anyways.
I love an oversized long sweater because living in Canada, you’re either dealing with the winter … or the air conditioning. Super cozy, stylish, and practical, especially when working from home. Great for layering (but not so great for fitting under a winter coat ).
